Band Websites

Bruno Mars

The first thing you see when you click onto the website is Bruno Mars' latest news. By doing this the fans are made away of what is going on with his music and can easily find if anything exciting has happened or is coming up with him and his music. The website also has a side bar which gives links to other pages on the website such as tour dates and his music. By including this feature it is easier for fans to navigate around the website. It also makes it a lot easier to find out what the website actually offers. It also allows you to download music straight from the website. This again makes the experience much easier for fans. It also means they are able to download the song if they don't have an iTunes account. It also allows you to sign up so that you receive emails about news, and offers on the website. The website is fairly interactive, it has different links you can click on to take you to other pages, there is a link to sign up to receive information about his tour. The side bar also includes link to Bruno Mars' Social media sites (facebook, twitter, youtube etc.). I don't really think that the website does signify Bruno's genre because it doesn't really look like a website you'd expect to see from a 'pop' artist. I think this because there aren't any bright colours on it which is one of the generic conventions from pop genre. I also think this because the website isn't as easy to navigate as other pop websites and also has quite a grown up look about it which is something you don't really see on pop websites because pop artists target audience are usually kids/teenagers.

One Direction

The One Direction website has a lot more features then the Bruno Mars one. At the top of the page there are 16 links to different pages, including a tour tracker, lyrics, photos and a merch store. By including all these features they have made the website a lot more entertaining as there is a lot more to do on it. It also makes it a better website for fans as it means they can easily find out about the band, look at photos of them and but there merchandise as well as much more. Another feature the website includes is links to all of One Directions social media sites such as Spotify, Twitter and Sound cloud. This again makes it easy for fans to follow the band on various sites and find out any news about them, as well as making it easier for them to listen to their music. The only interactivity on the site is links to other pages and videos of the band which you can watch. However there is a link which tells fans about an app called 'Zappar'. This app allows fans to find out where the band are going on their stadium tour and they are also able to share their experience of the tour on it. I think that the first appearance of the website doesn't really show the bands genre very well as the home page uses mainly dark colours (red and black) and also the photo of the band which is used could present them as less of a pop band and more a rock band as they are all wearing clothes which are seen to fit into that genre (black jeans, white t shirts) they are also all looking away from the camera in the photo which again takes away their genre. However as you click through the site it becomes more clear that their genre is pop. This is because the colours become much lighter and fit into the generic conventions of the genre better. There are also more photos of them all joking around together and showing themselves to be a boy band. The merch store also helps to represent them as a poppy boy band because of the things they sell. For example they sell mugs with there faces on which you can get personalised. I think this presents them as a pop band because it suggests that they are more interested in the commercialisation and branding of their group then they are about making music, which is something which is seen a lot in pop music.

You Me At Six

Before you even enter the website an advertisement comes up about their tour with All Time Low in 2015. This makes fans aware of the tour and also makes it easier to go onto the tickets page. This website also features links to different areas of the site. One of the biggest differences between this website and the other two is the photos. On the One Direction and Bruno Mars websites the images are mainly photos of the artists and their lives and appearances in magazines however most of the ones on the You Me At Six website are live photos or photos containing tour dates. This allows fans to see what kind of experience they would have if they went to see them live and also makes it easy for them to find out when the bands tour dates are. It allows fans to sign up for a newsletter, meaning that they will be emailed any news about the band. There is also a merch store which features new merch as well as old merch for the longer time fans. When you click onto the merch link it brings up and advertisement for their new special edition version of their latest album. It also offers a bundle which contains the special edition album and tour tickets. I think this website is the one which shows the artists genre best. I think this because the colours which are used throughout the whole website are a generic convention of the genre and fit into it. Also the images which are used of the band throughout the website fit into the genre as the set up of them and the clothes which the band are wearing in them are what you would expect of photos from a pop punk genre. I also think that the merch which the band sell fit into to genre as it is all quite 'different' and a designed in a way you would again expect from a band of their genre.
